The Vibrating Wire Handheld Readout is capable of reading any Vibrating Wire sensor operating between 400Hz and 6000Hz which covers almost all commercially available VW sensors. It displays readings in a choice of three frequency-related formats Frequency: Hz, Frequency2/1000 or Period, which is easily converted to engineering units. The wire excitation is ‘swept', with four user selectable sweep ranges. A fly lead is supplied which connects to the readout via a Lemo plug and socket. The standard lead terminates in four ‘crocodile' clips, two for VW reading and two for the thermistor. Manufactured from durable ABS plastic it has an IP66 rating: ideally suited to the rigours of a hard site life and can be used in all weathers.

The Readout can be left on between readings (i.e. automatic turn off after 20 minutes of being in idle state) and by selecting a sweep range and the preferred units, it takes readings of a physical change and temperature. Data are presented on a high resolution back-lit twin line LCD display, which is easily readable in all conditions including bright sunlight. If no thermistor is fitted to the instrument being read, then a ‘no thermistor' prompt will appear in the display.
